With another Mercury Retrograde in full swing we start off this spring month with confusion, more than the usual rescheduled appointments and the associated stress perhaps? It'll be all over by the 12th but there's always a little bit of proverbial cleanup! Each month we also pay attention to the lunar cycle and new planetary combinations. Together they can affect your personal health, the health of your community, the part of the country that you live in and even global events. The Monthly Lunar Cycle

This month on May 13, there is a New Moon in Taurus. This is a dependable and stable sign. Health wise, there can be more endurance and a desire for more stability in the life. You may take steps to get into a better health regimen. Taurus rules the gums so this can be a good time for a dental cleaning.

On May 27 there is a Full Moon in Sagittarius. This is an idealistic and optimistic sign and combined with the emotional Full Moon can bring over idealism and overindulgence. You can find yourself substituting food for emotional fulfillment. This can be in the form of fatty or friend foods which can have an adverse effect on the liver. This could be a good time for a liver tune up. Dandelion root is a tonic for the liver.

4 - A major planetary configuration this month on May 4 is Sun in Taurus square Mars in Leo. This aspect confers vitality and energy but a tendency to hastiness or impulsiveness can make you accident-prone. This runs the gamut from scrapes and falls to burns or accidents from sharp instruments. There is a tendency to push oneself too hard which can lead to sickness from overwork, muscle injury and in severe cases, heart strain or high blood pressure. Any indication of heart trouble should be seen immediately by a doctor. At this time you can experience a feverish or inflammatory response to disease which tends to be acute. You are more prone to stomach upset at this time and should lower your intake of high-acid foods such as meat, soft drinks.

17 - On May 17 Venus in Gemini squares Jupiter in Pisces. This is an excessive combination causing a laxity in the diet and illness due to overeating. It can be difficult to stay on a diet as there is a craving for sugary or fatty foods. There is a disinclination to exercise and the potential for toxins from excess eating putting a strain on the liver. Raw apples can stimulate a sluggish liver. Celery is also useful.

18 - On May 18, Venus in Gemini squares Saturn in Virgo. There can be an increase in skin disorders at this time running the gamut from dry skin to acne. Aloe vera can be used as a gel, ointment or lotion for skin disorders. There can be an acid-alkaline imbalance in the body. Raspberries are excellent for neutralizing acidity.

19 - On May 19, the Sun in Taurus squares Neptune in Aquarius. Sun square Neptune is a warning to wash fruits and vegetables carefully to avoid insecticides and to use caution in the use of products containing chemicals. The body is more sensitive now and there can be allergic reactions to chemicals. Sensitive individuals are prone to the bad effects of air pollution. There can also be adverse reactions to drugs so use care in over-the-counter drugs. Also on May 19 Venus in Gemini is square Uranus in Pisces. You can be nervous and high strung as disruptive influences keep you off balance. Celery is good for the nerves as well as calming foods such as strawberries, bananas and figs.

23 - On May 23, Jupiter in Pisces opposites Saturn in Virgo. There can be nutritional deficiencies due to poor assimilation of vitamins and minerals in the body. Overconsumption of fried foods can have a deleterious effect on your body. There can be problems with the gallbladder. Carrot, beet and cucumber juice cleanse the gallbladder.

Also on May 23, Venus in Cancer opposes Pluto in Capricorn. There can be extremes in diet or exercise routines that can adversely affect health. You may experience skin disorders such as acne or warts. Black, red and white currants help treat skin disorders. Excess intake of sugary foods can cause a problem with sugar metabolism. Chromium is important in the metabolism of sugar. It is found in Brewers yeast, carob and whole, unrefined foods. It can also be taken as a supplement.
